UNESCO IFAP was discussed at the Ninth International Conference "Crimea 2002"

The Ninth International Conference "Crimea 2002": "Libraries and Associations in the Transient World. New Technologies and New Forms of Cooperation" took place on June 08-16, 2002, in Sudak, the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the Ukraine. In 2002 the topic of the conference was “Electronic Resources and Social Role of Libraries in the Future".
 
The Russian Committee for the UNESCO Information for All Programme (IFAP) held a workshop on the UNESCO IFAP during the conference. The workshop agenda included report of Evgeny Kuzmin and Viktoria Krasilshchikova from the Russian IFAP Committee. The report was dedicated to the UNESCO IFAP mission and goals as well as its development in Russia. In particular, the reporters underlined that this UNESCO Programme is a platform for intellectual cooperation between the countries elaborating international policy in the field of building information society. The Programme is aimed at solving the global problem of decreasing the break between the informationally rich and informationally poor, i. e. overcoming “digital divide”. The experience of the Ministry of Culture as a Programme coordinator in Russia was also discussed.
 
Natalia Gendina and Ekaterina Kudrina from the Research Institute of Information Technologies for Social Sphere of Kemerovo State Academy of Culture and Arts (RI IT SS) informed the workshop participants about the role of the Institute as a regional center of the Russian IFAP Committee. The reporters pointed out that RI IT SS activity is aimed at realization of two key areas of the UNESCO IFAP, namely “Development of human resources and capabilities for the information age” (Area 2) and “Information technology for education, science, culture and communication” (Area 5). These two areas have predetermined the structure of the Institute that comprises the Laboratory for Personal Information Culture, including the Students' Research Center for Universal Information Training, and the Laboratory for Information Resources and Technology, including the Students' Research Center for New Information Technologies. The goals and tasks of these structures realized within their research programs and educational courses were examined in the report.
